Work and Employment

Trends in work and employment and possible future developments

The end of work in the developed economies has been predicted for over 40 years yet in the early 21st Century there are more people in employment in the UK than ever before and skill shortages in several areas of the labour market. The pattern of employment has changes significantly during the last half century but employment remains a central feature of both society and the economy.

This presentation examines:

  • The nature of work and employment and how they have changed.
  • The role of employment in western society
  • The historical development of employment
  • Scenarios for the future of work and employment
